Now that the Hummer EV can be charged at most (if not all) charging stations, what are you paying to charge yours? I’ve seen costs range from $0.31 to $0.45 per kWh mentioned in different communities.
One suggestion I’ve come across is to join Tesla’s subscription service via their app for $12.99/month to get a 20% discount on charging. It could cover its own cost with a single charge! Just remember to sign up through the app to ensure your membership is recognized.
In California, charging at EVgo costs about $55 for 100 kWh. A full charge for something like the Hummer SUT 24-module would be over $110.
That might seem high at first glance, but let's put it in perspective by comparing it to a gas-powered Ram TRX.
The Ram TRX gets an average of 12 mpg. The Hummer SUT 24-module is rated for 381 miles on a full charge.
If you were driving the TRX, you'd need about 31.75 gallons of gas to cover the same 381 miles (381 miles ÷ 12 mpg = 31.75 gallons).
With Bay Area gas prices currently around $5.79 per gallon for premium fuel, that comes out to a whopping $183.83 (31.75 gallons × $5.79).
So, while a full charge for the Hummer costs around $110, you'd be saving roughly $73 compared to filling up a similarly high-performance truck like the TRX. This same comparison applies to other high-performance trucks, like the Raptor R, which also averages 12 mpg.
