Okay, I'll start this off with the admission that I've never been the biggest GMC fan in the world....going way back to the snapping "wine glass stem" turn signal levers on 70s and 80s GMs.

That being said, I have suddenly found myself rather attracted to a Hummer EV 3X, and while I'm generally a petrol-head, there is a lot about the Hummer EV that appeals to me.

Range anxiety isn't a huge issue for me, as my commute is maybe 40 miles each way, and I generally don't take long road trips. The Ranger Raptor is fun (with Ford Performance tune on it), and not bad on fuel (1 year of ownership has me averaging 14.6L / 100 km (16 MPG) in a mix of city and highway, and I'm generally pretty hard on the throttle. My big complaints about the Ranger Raptor is that it's small inside (I'm 6'3"), so the driver's seat is always all the way back, and there isn't a ton of room in the back seat for any reasonably sized (or larger) adults. If you're over 6', the back seat is pretty cramped.

Also, the Ranger seems to have endless software bugs.....front parking / collision sensors go wonky even with nothing around, and I get notifications on My Ford app telling me that remote start capabilities are limited because the battery is apparently low, even if the vehicle is just sitting in my garage (this was during winter). Ford is aware of these issues, but has no resolution.

Apple CarPlay has been occasionally hit and miss; I have two cells, one for work, one for personal, and often CarPlay won't allow either to connect, forcing a reset of the whole Sync 4 system.

Previous truck was a RAM 2500 Longhorn Limited with the Cummins, and that was a fantastic truck, but I no longer needed to tow as much. The Ranger, however, is limited to 5,510 lbs, which won't even tow a decent travel trailer.

So size (externally) isn't a huge issue for me, though I doubt the Hummer would fit into my garage. Which isn't a major concern, the RAM 2500 didn't either.

Long diatribe over tl;dr. My major questions would be these: What is the day to day living experience with the Hummer EV as your sole vehicle like? Any major hardware or software issues to be prepared to deal with (obviously the vehicle is under warranty, but I'd hate to have GM tell me that parts aren't available for 6 months!)?

Is the Hummer EV a decent, fun, daily driver / commute vehicle, or is it something that you'd only have as 1 of two (or more) vehicles in a household?

Welcome to the forum! I find your feedback on the Ranger Raptor interesting cause I have actually considered going the opposite direction.

I have had my Hummer for almost two years now, over 38,000 miles (61,500km) and I have no complaints when it comes to daily driving it. It is comfortable and easy to maneuver thanks to the cameras and rear wheel steering. It rides great and actually handles well thanks to the low center of gravity. Maybe not GT500 quality, but certainly better than my GenII Raptor and Ram TRX.

The power can be summed up in one word….incredible! Instant reaction, torque and zero ‘shifting’. It pulls hard till the 106 MPH limiter. The 3X is the best way to go as it has the most power and the WTF mode.

One feature that I was surprised to find to be the most useful is the frunk. I have three dogs and have road tripped a few times. Having the frunk to store our luggage and other items is very handy. (I have the SUV version)

Now for the not so grand: Probably the most frustrating issues are cracked windshields and leaking roof. I’m on my third wind shield already and it too is cracked after only a month. Granted this isn’t necessarily the vehicles fault but I do feel the flat angle and seemingly thin glass contribute to this constant issue. My dealer attempted to repair the leaking roof three times, and so far the third times the charm as I haven’t seen it leak yet. (Knock on wood). The roof issue is a known one and the dealers should be able to address it.

The software is glitchy. Typical issues I have are related to Maps, settings, radio favorites and Home Screen arrangement. I regularly have to reset the Maps settings cause it seems to forget them. This is mostly related to charging stations, NACS adaptor and ‘avoiding’ settings. Another example happened just tonight as the Maps wasn’t showing any roads. It was correctly identifying the road I was on, but it looked like I was just driving randomly through nothingness. Not detrimental but more unusual to see. Occasionally my radio favorites and Home Screen icons will just rearrange themselves. As someone who has good muscle memory (I can’t even tell you what the password is to my work computer, but I can literally enter it with my eyes closed) this drives me crazy. Thankfully it has only happened a couple times.

No issues with any systems on mine (knock on wood). Although I have heard a few stories of failed or faulty battery systems. Those do seem to be few and far between.

If you are going to daily it, i would absolutely recommend having a level 2 charger installed at home. I charge mine at home 99% of the time and it makes it more convenient and cheaper than public fast charging. As an example, most fast chargers I’ve encountered cost anywhere from $0.46 to $0.58 per kWh. At home I average $0.08 per kWh.

You will want a CCS to NACS adapter for those times you may need to use a Tesla charging station. I recommend the A2Z Typhoon Pro, not the GM (Tesla) one they want you to use. The Typhoon is actually cheaper and MUCH better quality.

There are many things I love about my Hummer and truly do feel it is the perfect vehicle for me. The frustrations have caused my eyes to wander, but it is still here so I think that should say something.

If you read this far, I apologize for the rambling but truly hope it is helpful.
